Decoration and
home improvements
You don’t need to ask permission
to decorate your home – we just
ask that you don’t paint any kitchen
cupboards or tiles. If you want to
make any changes to the structure
of your home, including removing
doors or changing Artex walls and
ceilings, then you will need permission.
You can request it by completing a home
improvement form, available from our website.
Flooring
Unfortunately, if you live in a flat above ground level you are unable
to lay laminate or wooden flooring as it can be very noisy for your
neighbours.
Private gardens
We want you to enjoy your garden. If you have your own garden
it is your responsibility to maintain it. You can plant flowers and
shrubs to make it look nice, but if you would like to install a patio
or decking, or plant a tree (as they can cause damage to drains and
also your property in the future), you will need to complete a home
improvement request which can be done through mybdht.
We ask that you also keep your garden tidy and free of rubbish,
maintaining any existing, hedges, shrubs and trees as these
are your responsibility and you will need to make sure so they
don‘t block paths, damage any fencing, or inconvenience your
neighbours.
We also ask that you do not have fires/burn anything in the garden.
Any fire can be dangerous, troublesome to neighbours, and also
harmful to the environment.
