Communal areas
Keeping communal areas clear is crucial for safe evacuation in
emergencies. That’s why we ask that you please follow these
guidelines:
• Keep communal areas clean, tidy, and free from obstructions,
rubbish and belongings, including bikes and pushchairs.
Doormats are fine outside your front door.
• Ensure communal doors remain closed as they are fire doors.
• No smoking in communal areas as this is against the law.
• Cleaning of communal areas is carried out by a contractor for
bdht and paid for via your service charge.
• Gas cylinders or flammable/explosive substances can cause
fires. Please do not store them in communal areas.
• Please ensure smoke and heat detectors are in working order.
• Report any damages affecting security or communal doors
promptly. Use door entry systems to control access for visitors.
• You are responsible for the behaviour of any visitors to your home
and the building in which you live. Please be considerate of noise
levels in communal areas to avoid disturbing neighbours.
• Motorbikes and mopeds need to be stored outside, please.
• Motability scooters must not be charged in communal areas or
left in corridors where they cause a hazard or obstruction for
others when evacuating the building in an emergency.
Fire safety
In case of fire
Stay calm and evacuate quickly, closing doors to prevent fire
spread. Never use the lift; use the stairs instead. Call the fire service
(999) from a safe location. Do not re-enter until you are told it’s safe
by the fire service.
